About Adventures Into Darkness

Adventures into Darkness is a horror comic book from Standard Comics, the company owned by publisher Ned Pines, that ran from 1952 to 1954. Its 10 issues were numbered 5 through 14 and dated August 1952 to June 1954, so issue #5 was the first. Each issue ran 36 pages and usually held four longer comic stories, a few shorter ones and a short text story.

Artists on the series included Alex Toth, Mike Sekowsky, George Roussos, Gene Fawcette and Rocco Mastroserio, and its writers included Jack Katz, Irwin Shapiro and Bill Woolfolk. Issue #5 opens with "Murder Mansion," pencilled by Toth and inked by Mike Peppe, in which a gangster couple hiding in an abandoned mansion conjures up a demon to do their bidding, at a price. The same issue includes "Horror's Little Acre," drawn by Ruben Moreira, in which nature itself turns on a killer, plus work by Jerry Grandenetti, John Celardo and Art Saaf and a text story by Irwin Shapiro.

A 15th issue was prepared but never released; its contents later appeared in Eclipse's Seduction of the Innocent 3-D #1 in October 1985. The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction calls that issue "doubtless a victim" of the moral panic stirred up by Fredric Wertham's 1954 book Seduction of the Innocent.

On LiveComics, every issue here plays panel by panel, with each line voiced by a full cast, plus sound effects and a score.
