About Amazing Adventures

Amazing Adventures is a science fiction anthology comic published by Ziff-Davis in the early 1950s, running six issues from about 1950 to 1952. Its publisher, Ziff-Davis, had acquired the magazine Amazing Stories in 1938. The series featured painted covers, and its issues held three to five comic stories, usually four. All but one issue also carried a two-page text story, and the run included some one-page prediction and non-fiction pieces.

Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel is credited as executive editor of the first issue, and the Grand Comics Database credits him with scripting its opening story. Artists across the run included Murphy Anderson, Bernard Krigstein, Don Perlin and Wally Wood, and Alex Schomburg painted the cover of issue #2.

Issue #1 is a 36-page book that went on sale in October 1950 under a painted cover by Robert Gibson Jones. It opens with Murphy Anderson's "The Asteroid Witch," in which a space pilot seeks a legendary siren whose allure makes pilots crash. It also carries Ogden Whitney's "A-Day," Wally Wood's "Winged Death on Venus" and Alex Schomburg's "Trespasser in Time," along with "The Stone Men," a jungle tale of invaders from another planet. In 2016 PS Publishing collected all six issues in a hardback volume.
