A ComicRack alternative for Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac
ComicRack is a Windows app for organizing and reading comic files, and its old phone apps are no longer in the app stores. If what you want is to read those CBR, CBZ and PDF files on an Android phone, an iPhone, an iPad or a Mac, LiveComics is an alternative: add your files or connect your Komga or Kavita server, then read page by page, one panel at a time, or read aloud. It is a reader, not a library manager, so it doesn't edit tags or sort your folders.
Is ComicRack still being updated?
The original ComicRack is not. Its last version was 0.9.178, and it hasn't been updated in years. A free, open source fork called ComicRack Community Edition keeps it going and still puts out new versions in 2026. Both are Windows programs. If you want the desktop library manager back on a Windows PC, that fork is the place to look. LiveComics is a different kind of app: a reader for your phone, your tablet and any browser.
What happened to the ComicRack phone apps?
They are gone from Google Play and the App Store. The Android app was never updated for new phones, so Android 14 and newer won't install it the normal way, and its syncing needs ComicRack running on a Windows PC. LiveComics is in the App Store for iPhone and iPad, on Google Play for Android and in the Microsoft Store for Windows, and it runs in any browser too.

What does LiveComics do?
It opens the comic files you own, CBR, CBZ, PDF and EPUB, and reads them three ways. Pages only shows each page whole. Panel view shows one panel at a time, framed to fill the screen. Both are free on every issue. Voiced reads every speech balloon aloud with two synthetic narrators matched to each speaker, with sound effects and a score, priced per issue in credits. Full cast, with its own voice for each main character, is a paid upgrade. Your library lives in your account, so your place is kept on every device.
What doesn't it do?
It isn't a library manager. It doesn't read or edit ComicInfo tags, look up metadata, or keep smart lists and reading lists, and it doesn't sync files to a device. Your comics are uploaded to your library here rather than read from a folder on your PC. Issues of one series are stacked together by their file names, and you can rename an issue or drop it onto another stack.
How do I move my comics from ComicRack?
Your files stay where they are in ComicRack. You add copies of them here.
- Find the folders you added to your ComicRack library. ComicRack reads your comics where they sit, so the CBR and CBZ files are still in those folders.
- Make a free account at livecomics.to, or get the app from the App Store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store.
- In your library, press + Add Comics and pick the files. You can pick many at once.
- Choose Pages only, Panel view or Voiced and press Add. Tick Use these choices for the other files too, and any issue already in your library is skipped.
Each file can be up to 2.6 GB. A free account imports 30 comics a month and holds 1 GB, about 20 issues, with no card. For a bigger collection, Collector is $3 a month for 50 GB and lifts the import limit.
Can I keep my comics on my own computer?
Yes, with a comic server. Run Komga or Kavita on your PC or NAS, point it at your comic folders, and connect it in LiveComics with From a link, then Your library server. You pick the issues to import, and the server has to be reachable at a public https address.
Straight answers
Is there a ComicRack for Mac?
No. ComicRack and ComicRack Community Edition are Windows programs. On a Mac, LiveComics runs in Safari, Chrome or any other browser with nothing to install, and it opens the same CBR and CBZ files.
Is there a ComicRack app for iPhone or iPad?
Not anymore: the old one is no longer in the App Store. LiveComics is in the App Store for iPhone and iPad and works in Safari too, so you can read your comics one panel at a time or have them read aloud.
Does ComicRack work on Android 14?
Not the normal way. The old ComicRack Android app is too old for Android 14 and newer to install from a file, and it is no longer on Google Play. LiveComics is on Google Play and opens CBR, CBZ and PDF comics on Android phones and tablets.
Can LiveComics open my ComicRack library?
No, it opens the comic files, not ComicRack's library. Add the CBR, CBZ, PDF or EPUB files themselves. Ratings, tags, smart lists and reading lists stay in ComicRack, and your reading progress starts fresh here.
What can replace ComicRack on Windows?
For a desktop library manager, ComicRack Community Edition, a free fork of ComicRack itself, or YACReader, a free reader and library for Windows, Mac and Linux. For reading one panel at a time or having comics read aloud, LiveComics is in the Microsoft Store and runs in any browser on Windows.
Is LiveComics free?
Yes, to add and read your comics. A free account imports 30 comics a month with 1 GB of storage and no card, Panel view is free on every issue, and voices are paid per issue in credits.
Can it read my comics aloud?
Yes. Choose Voiced when you import an issue and every speech balloon is read in order by two synthetic narrators matched to each speaker, with sound effects and a score, and subtitles show each line as it is spoken. You see the price in credits before you press Add.
LiveComics is not affiliated with ComicRack, its original developer or the ComicRack Community Edition project. ComicRack, Komga, Kavita and YACReader are named only to describe what they are.
